Burn out Recovery Program

Welcome to Week 1

If you are here, it means your body has been sending signals.

And I want you to understand:

  • Burnout is not weakness.
  • Burnout is not laziness.
  • Burnout is a predictable biological breakdown when stress chemistry runs too long.

This first week to your recovery is not about pushing harder.

It’s about recognising the red flags early, so you can stop burnout before it escalates.

Because most people don’t stop when their body whispers…

They only stop when it screams.

LESSON 1: Burnout is Not a Mindset Issue

What is burnout really?

Let’s clear up the biggest myth:

Burnout is not simply emotional.
Burnout is physiological.

When stress becomes chronic, your body changes its chemistry to keep you alive.

It increases cortisol, changes insulin, disrupts sleep hormones, and keeps the nervous system on high alert.

That’s why burnout can feel like:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • irritability
  • poor motivation
  • foggy thinking
  • cravings
  • deep fatigue

…and yet people are told: “Just be more positive.”

No.
This is not weakness. This is biology.

What cortisol is doing

Cortisol is your survival hormone.
It helps you:

  • wake up
  • handle pressure
  • stay alert
  • stabilise blood sugar

But when cortisol runs too long:

  • sleep breaks
  • appetite increases
  • cravings increase
  • fat storage increases (especially belly)
  • thyroid slows
  • progesterone drops
  • libido declines
  • mood destabilises

Cortisol also stimulates the release of insulin which means lipogenesis (fat making) kicks in quicker.

So if someone is gaining belly fat, craving sugar, waking at 3am, feeling anxious and exhausted, this isn’t a personality issue.

It’s a hormone and nervous system issue.

LESSON 2: Why Burnout Sneaks Up on You

youtube-video-thumbnail

Burnout is a slow boil (not a breakdown overnight)

Burnout usually happens gradually like a pot simmering.

People ignore the early signs because they can still function.

And the biggest red flag statement is:

“I only have to do this for another two months.”

That line is what keeps cortisol switched on.

Because the nervous system hears:

  • there is no endpoint
  • there is no safety
  • there is no recovery
  • you are trapped in output mode

Eventually the body changes gears from performance to survival.

And in survival mode, your body will prioritise:

  • keeping you alert
  • keeping you alive
  • protecting your energy over:
  • joy
  • libido
  • digestion
  • healthy weight regulation
  • deep sleep

That’s not you being dramatic.

That’s biology.

LESSON 3: The 4 Stages of Burnout (Know Your Stage)

Burnout progresses in stages. This is important because the strategy changes depending on the stage.

Stage 1: Stressed (tired but can sleep)

You’re under pressure but still mostly functioning.

Common signs:

  • tired but recoverable
  • you sleep okay
  • you can still “push” when needed
  • you still have motivation

Best strategy: prevent progression
Sleep, food rhythm, boundaries, recovery breaks.

Stage 2: Tired but Wired

This is where the nervous system starts flipping.

Common signs:

  • exhausted but can’t switch off
  • waking 2–4am
  • anxiety sensations
  • caffeine reliance
  • late night scrolling
  • craving sugar or alcohol to unwind

Best strategy: stabilise cortisol rhythm
Measure cortisol, reduce stimulants, sleep discipline.

Stage 3: Adrenal Fatigue

Now energy reserves drop.

Common signs:

  • heavy fatigue
  • brain fog
  • low libido
  • weight gain
  • cravings
  • immune drops
  • gut symptoms

Best strategy: rebuild biology
Nutrients, gut support, mineral replenishment, structured rest.

Stage 4: Burnout / Chronic Fatigue

This is full shutdown.

Common signs:

  • deep exhaustion
  • low mood / emotional flatness
  • body feels fragile
  • chronic symptoms
  • work becomes hard

Best strategy: major load reduction + clinical support
Structured rehab. No pushing.

You've done great this week and well done for starting your burnout recovery.

Many don't allocate the time and not surprisingly they kept getting the same results in life and feel the same fatigue, disastifaction and other symptoms we've already discussed.

Be sure to lock in time to do week 2 and we discuss diagnosis and many people for the first time feel really understood with what has been going on in their bodies.
