When it comes to managing diabetes, Ozempic (segaglutide) has been a game changer.

It is dispensed as a weekly injection so many see it as a convenient and powerful way to manage weight. Which results tend to indicate that it is. HOWEVER - like most miracle-type drugs, there are many downsides.

If you really want to know the side effects, check out the reporting pharmaceutical/health bodies in your country. In the USA it is the FDA. In Australia it is the TGA.

If you search data of adverse events you will find more information but as always, reporting of adverse events is underreported and it takes a lot to actually prove that a person's negative outcomes were due to a drug.


Why is Ozempic so popular?

Ozempic has been picked up by Hollywood celebrities and has made a SPLASH and visual impact on those using it. Ie the public can see the difference.

It offers  a low need for dieting, and exercise and seems to fit into a very busy person's schedule.

It was developed as a diabetic drug using hormones to balance blood sugar levels. As with most "effective" drugs, it has been prescribed "off market" that means for people who do not have diabetes, as a weight management strategy.

But it is all not rosy and this article is unveiling what many celebs are experiencing.

Let's unpack some of the issues with it.

Ozempic does its magic by acting like a hormone called GLP-1, which helps control sugar levels in your blood. Sounds great, right? But sometimes, it can make you feel a bit queasy, especially at first. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can hit some folks when they start taking it. And there's a chance it could mess with your thyroid, too, and is well documented in the product information guide.

It was actually the potential thyroid and cancer issues that put me off the drug from the get-go. It is not always safe...

Alternative Strategies and side effect management

And after seeing it now rolled out en masse, I am not a huge fan.

Obviously consult your doctor and the person prescribing it to you but you need to understand potential damage that it may be causing (ie thyroid neoplasms).

I am a massive fan on managing weight naturally. Making sure your mind is switched off when you eat, eating a wide range of vegetables, quality proteins and fats.

A normal ranged body is possible when the basic foundations of health are adhered to. BUT obviously if you are a diabetic you need to consult your health practitioner and question them on safety and appropriate usage for you.
